Project Background
The Community Drumming Workshop & Local Artists Exhibition, led by the Calgary Korean Women’s Association (CKWA) and launching on April 17, 2026, is a vibrant, community-focused arts initiative designed to celebrate creativity, cultural expression, and local talent in Calgary. The project integrates hands-on drumming workshops with a curated exhibition of local visual artists, creating a multi-disciplinary cultural experience that engages participants in both music and visual arts. The drumming workshop will be led by an experienced facilitator and is open to participants of all ages and skill levels. Attendees will learn basic rhythm techniques, explore cultural drumming traditions, and actively engage in collective rhythm-making, culminating in a participatory performance that fosters teamwork, creativity, and cultural exchange. Simultaneously, the art exhibition will showcase works by Calgary-based artists across various mediums, including painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Interactive elements, such as artist talks and Q&A sessions, will allow visitors to connect directly with artists, gaining insight into their processes while supporting local talent.
