25nov1:00 pm2:00 pmPlanning Forward: How to Make Your Savings Last

Event Details

Have you ever asked yourself “where did all of my money go?” Or “how can my friends and colleagues have everything and yet I’m struggling to live?” It’s difficult to find money to put aside let alone keep it safe from temptations like shoes or golf clubs, etc. However, savings is the key to weathering life’s storms as well as having what you want.

In this session, we take the mystery out of savings, and you’ll learn how to save money. Join us to learn how to:

– Identify what’s in it for you to save your money;

– Differentiate between short, medium and long term savings;

– Identify your irregular expenses (e.g. holidays, birthdays, etc.);

– Create an easy-to-implement plan on how to save for irregular expenses without relying on credit;

– Plan for emergencies so that they become an inconvenience and not a devastating blow to your budget;

– Understand for medium and long-term savings, the differences between a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), stocks, and bonds;

– Create SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed) goals; and

– Implement some easy savings tips like paying yourself first, tracking expenses, and setting intentions and goals.

Speaker Profile:

Angie has been working in the financial sector for over 20 years. During her career, she has received the Vision in Action award which is presented to an employee who has achieved overall best performance to both the bank and the community. In her job, Angie is most proud of the fact that she can help and support people’s financial needs; especially those who are newly immigrated to Canada.

Angie’s parents immigrated from Korea in the late 80s when she was just a teenager. She feels that she truly understands how difficult it is to settle in Canada due to cultural differences and a lack of English language skills.
